In this tutorial, we'll show you how to create custom fields in Samdock.

Even though you can already store a lot of information about your contacts with the standard fields, sometimes you need to document additional information. This is when custom fields come in handy.

From the Home screen, go to Settings, and click on Custom fields.

You'll see an overview of all your custom fields already created.

Add a new custom field

Click on the ➕ icon in the upper right corner of Person fields or Organization fields respectively, and choose the field type you want.

Here are the options:

  • Text field: a field to enter only text
  • Single choice: a field that lets you choose only one option among many
  • Multiple choice: a field that lets you choose more than one option among many
  • Currency: a field to enter money-related information

Once you've selected the type of field, give it a name to identify it for later.

You'll also see the API key, which will help you to later share information with other apps.

Customize your field

Once you have your custom field created, you'll have to customize it to your needs.

Multiple-choice & Single option

Here you'll get to add options with the ➕ button on the bottom.

Text & Currency

These fields let you include a tooltip, a hint to let your teammates know what kind ofvalue should go here.

Use a custom field with a contact

Once you have created your custom fields, you can use them just like any other field in your persons or organizations contacts.

Go to your desired contact from the Contacts section in Samdock.

Click on the ➕ icon at the bottom of the Contact fields in the left column of the screen. 

Scroll down to your Custom fields and select the one you need.

Enter the data you need in the corresponding Custom field

The custom field will appear right at the bottom of the Contact fields in your Contact's detail page.
